From NY to LDN: FASHION WEEK

While bloggers, fashion editors and models alike flocked to New York for fashion week, here at Glass Boutique we sat, green-eyed, glued to our Twitter feed, and hungry for any online coverage of runway shows.Henry Holland tweeted that he was turning off his Twitter and locking himself away with gin to help him get through the total isolation of being in London while the rest of the fashion world was in NY. We totally understood his sentiment. ‘We don’t care! We don’t NEED you, NYFW!’ we lied, as we wiped our frustrated tears and downed sipped our gin martinis.

It seemed as if there was just as much buzz surrounding the street style and celebrity outfits as on the runways themselves. It has been well documented in the past that during fashion week, addict-fashionistas don the most outrageous and eye-catching outfits purely in the hope of being featured in street style blogs. Fortunately, the images which filtered through the cameras lenses and laptop edits focused far more on chic, minimalist layering than wacky excess.

One of the standout shows for us was Rag & Bone’s offering, which seemed to mirror and trump the style out on the street. Rag and Bone gave a master class in layering patterns; soft separates were topped with structured jackets and flowing coats. Flashes of patent leather, tough leather waist belts and luxurious fur collars dressed down with messy hair and minimalist make-up created an image of the fierce modern woman we can all relate to.

This look is certainly enough to make us cherish the cold London weather and employ some Autumn/Winter 2012 trends today. We will definitely be channelling this come Saturday 17th. Oh yes, ladies and gents. Gear up and get ready, get those steamers out because it is time. It’s finally our turn. Prepare for London to be overrun with beautiful people and even more beautiful clothes.

Us here at Glass Boutique are particularly looking forward to House of Holland,  Antipodium, Stella McCartney, Peter Pilotto, Burberry Prorsum, Mary Katrantzou and Meadham Kirchhoff. We can guarantee the talented MA Fashion students down at Central St Martins are going to turn out some fabulous, fresh clothing. Check back here for the latest scoop on the hottest catwalks, the hottest models and the hottest trends to emerge over on this side of the pond. We’re excited. Are you?
