Roll Up, Roll Up! LFW Round-Up!
They came in droves; the crème de la crème of not only the fashion world but also those in music, art and even politics descended on London for a week of parties, celeb-spotting, and above all, FASHION. With Wednesday 22nd marked as the last official day of London fashion week, and dedicated to the finest in fashionable menswear, GB now offers you our own special take on LFW AW12.
What a week it was. From the hyped coverage of each show’s ‘frow’ – the term coined for ‘front-row.’ No, I’m not kidding – which featured the likes of Lana Del Ray, Kanye West, the Geldoff girls, off-duty supermodels and Sam Cam, to the after parties, to the clothes themselves, it was a week of exuberance and excitement.
In the clothes themselves we saw the peplum trend pull through for another season. Antonio Berardi was a lesson on how to peplum to perfection – no unflattering hip shapes here – and who can resist a pop of orange with an oversized, oh-so-luxurious fur coat? That’s right ladies, the gorilla look is in and it’s here to stay.
Central St Martins graduate and fashionista-favourite Mary Katrantzou was another designer to feature the peplum, only hers were teamed with eye-catching prints and brain-boggling patterns. Here at GB we just can’t resist a structured dress, and this collection had us drooling. With a colour palette ranging from yellows to reds to blues to greens and just about everything in between, there really is something for every girl here.
Feature prints were a trend seen on just about every catwalk at LFW, with nods going to Peter Pilotto, Giles, Erdem, and Stella McCartney. The latest offering from House of Holland stood out from the crowd with bright, oversized houndstooth prints and even a zig-zag print fur coat that echoes Prada’s SS11 orange and black striped fur scarves.
Finally, let’s talk military. We’d all be lying if we said there wasn’t a certain something about a man in uniform that just does it for us, but it seems that us ladies look good in militaria too. Burberry showed us some gorgeous military jackets, and McQ Alexander McQueen was a standout collection that featured stunning structured coats in wool and leather, and a range of tailored tapestry-like dresses, all teamed with nip-you-in waist belts.
Back to the celebs, then, and we were all a-twitter on Twitter following Stella McCartney’s dinner party. I think our invite must’ve got lost in the post. Don’t worry, Stella, no hard feelings! We’re just looking forward to next year. Forget Alexa Chung levitating on the tips of swords, we want to see Vicky Beckham lying on the tips of her famous Louboutin collection. Meanwhile, love her or hate her, singer Lana Del Ray was bestowed with the honour of being made Mulberry’s latest muse. Don’t believe us? Check out the white ostrich handbag named ‘The Del Ray.’
So, another LFW done and dusted, and the wait begins for the stock to hit the shops come autumn time. But when I think back to the all the clothes we’ve seen, all the sumptuous fur separates, floaty dresses, structured dresses, roll neck jumpers and woolen jackets, I just can’t seem to get these four little words out of my head… “I want it NOW! I want it NOW! I want it NOW!”
